Welcome to the UEM - Union Européenne de Motocyclisme
Motorcycle sport and motorcycle tourism have undergone a rapid development since the powered two-wheeler made its first "steps" and since the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) was founded in 1904. After the fall of the "Iron Curtain" in 1989 and with the new possibilities of free movement, Europe suddenly has become a continent with open borders and with 75 % more countries than there were before. Thus former structures in all spheres of life had to be reorganised and as a consequence the same was done for motorcycling.
This was the hour of birth of the Union Européenne de Motocyclisme in 1996. Since then it has made an extraordinary development and in 2006, the UEM celebrated its 10th anniversary. Today the UEM unifies 42 member countries and is the largest Continental Union for motorcycling in the world and the largest partner of the FIM with almost 50% of its members and 80% of all activities organised world wide in the field of motorcycling.
The UEM is responsible for all motorcycle sports activities outside World Championships and is home not only for the large, traditional Motorcycle Federations but also for those which are small and need support and encouragement.
In tourism the UEM has developed and established new activities and thus also approaches to the non-sporting motorcyclists. With the publication of UEM-Motorcycling Maps and the certification of motorcycle-friendly hotels and campsites the UEM has created a new field of activity which opens up new chances and opportunities for the development of the UEM.
As the UEM cares about all aspects of motorcycling in Europe the aspects of Road Safety and Environment should not be forgotten. In close cooperation with the FIM the UEM has taken responsibility to make motorcycle riding a safe and enjoyable activity not only in the present but also in the future.
Enjoy your visit at our website and discover the fascination and countless aspects of motorcycling.
